The souks are unlike anything you can imagine! As you walk down the rows of small shops, men call out to you, trying to sell spices or scarves or even gold as you politely shake your head and keep on walking. If you do stop in a shop, the salesman will take time to show you everything the store has to offer, speaking as if you have been friends for years. We (the kids) learned that the important thing is to know how to bargain, and be able to walk away. None of the items in the souks have a fixed price, and the shop keepers will start out with an outrageously high price, and then you bargain until you find one you like, or walk away. The smells are amazing, especially so in the spice and perfume souks! It is defiantly a place to remember.
Great photo and description of the market. Thanks for sharing!
